6 Month Update and Announcement! - Live, My One Little Word for 2015

For the past several years ,I have been choosing
One Little Word for each year...

A Word that would guide me through the year...

A Word to focus on......

In 2014, I chose ME, but failed miserably!!
I should have chose NO for my Word that year.....
So I chose LIVE as my Word for 2015!
In looking back now over the last 6 months, I realize that I also chose NO and ME along with LIVE!!

I realized that I needed to learn to say NO and to take care of ME in order to LIVE!!

From November of 2013 to November of 2014, this is what I got myself involved in:

1. Co Chairperson and Vendor of our Church's Holiday Craft Fair and Specialty Basket Raffle
2. Co Chairperson and Vendor of our Church's Spring Craft Fair and Specialty Basket Raffle
3. Co Chairperson of our Church's Summer Flea Market
4. Hostess at our Church's Harvest Tea where I did 2 Theme Tables and had close to 20 Guests
5. Co Chairperson of our Church's Holiday Craft Fair and Specialty Basket Raffle which I doubled in size, causing me to pull out as a vendor myself.

I did all this while working Full Time!

Nuts, I know!!

We recently had a new Priest assigned to our church so I took this as an opportunity for Joe and I to "retire" from being in charge of any Fund Raising Events.

I have also chosen not to be a hostess any more at our Church's Harvest Tea as it is very labor intensive for not only me but for Joe having to haul dishes and decorations out of our house to the car and then from the car to the Church Hall and back to the car and then back into our house.

I am not sure if I ever mentioned that Joe actually has severe osteoporosis , takes medication for that and has already suffered 2 compression fractures in his back. But I would like to go as just a Guest! I donated all of my tablecloths, serving pieces and dishes to this year's Flea market which I had nothing to do with and did not even go to! I know, can you believe it ???????

And Joe and I will no longer be participating in the Craft Fair and Specialty Basket Raffle and that means having anything to do with running the event nor will I be a vendor at it.

In fact,I am choosing to put my little Craft Business on hold until Joe retires. Then he will be available more to help me if I choose to do local Craft Fairs or rent a space at a Flea Market or other place of Business. I may also consider returning to selling my Crafts on Ebay but until then ( 2017) , I am just going to enjoy myself and craft for ME!! Something that I have not done in quite a while!

So I have eliminated all obligations that I had in previous years. This does not mean that we will not be supporting our church. We will be glad to volunteer our time at Fund Raisers for a few hours if our work schedules allow for it.

I can not tell you how it feels to have this huge weight lifted off my shoulders!

I do not make New Year's Resolutions.

But, I do like to aspire to do a few things in the beginning of a New Year......plan on what I would like to achieve during the  Year......

So here are the ones that  I talked about in the beginning of the year....... Let's see how I did!!!

1. Get myself back on track to be healthier by losing an additional 15 pounds , at least. The more weight I lose, the better my knee will feel and the healthier it is for me overall.

Okay, after gaining back about 15 pounds over the Winter of the 55 pounds that I had lost the previous year, I seriously need to work on this one. So I have now reset this goal to lose about 20 -25 pounds by the end of the year.

2. Get back on my Exercise Bike for at least 15 minutes a day 5 times a week.  I had stopped doing it because of back pain from several compression deformities in my back and after completing 12 weeks of Physical Therapy for my back, I hope to be able to do the bike without any discomfort.

I also need to be more mindful of this one. I do get on the exercise bike but I need to set up more of a schedule and do at least 15 minutes a day 5 days a week so this is something else that I need to work on.

3. Purge...... I am a Victorian Soul who believes in the Philosophy that "More is More'. I realize that I have much More than what I need so I want to take a long hard look at all the stuff I have and decide what I truly do not need and can live without.  This is what will probably kill me!! I did take 4-5 boxes of Christmas stuff up to our church Flea Market garage and I am really being very picky with what I buy at the after Christmas sales....

I have actually done really well with this one. I started going through and deciding which items I absolutely needed, loved and could not live without. If they did not fall in any of those categories, then out they went....donated to our Church Flea Market or to Volunteers of America. I have pretty much gone through most of the house but I still have a few more things to go through.

4. Organize.... Now I always considered myself a very organized person because I am a bit ( well, a lot) OCD but over the last 18 months, I feel like I can not get  a handle on things so that  has to change before I loose my mind.

As I have been purging, I have also been organizing those things that I have decided to keep. I have organized drawers, closets, storage tubs, etc. I even did most of the Attic but it is now too hot to go up there and spent any significant amount of time there so that is on hold until the Fall........

5. Eliminate some bills and get finances in better shape and spend less money

Joe and I have been working on this for the past year now and have done well. All of our credit cards are now paid off and we do not use them unless there is something we need in an Emergency. We remortgaged the house for a lower interest rate and for less years to be close to being paid off coinciding with Joe's retirement. We have also curbed our spending , buying only what we need and not impulse spending.

6. This one has to do with the one above....... Go PART TIME by November of 2015!!!

I have come to the conclusion that I need to take better care of myself and that going PART TIME will seriously help with that. My job is very physical because I work in a Rehab department as a nurse and I lift people for a living, some times 200 and 300 pound people who have disabilities!
I also work full time night shift and sleep very little. As I am aging, it is taking a physical toll on me. Dropping down to working 7 days in a 2 week pay period from 9 which is still considered full time should help that a bit but there are issues with going part time that I will talk about in a later post.

Actually, I have a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT in regards to this one!!

I have finally gotten approval for a co worker and myself to switch positions!! So I will be taking her Part Time .7 position and she will be taking my Full Time .9 position!!

And when will this switch occur??????

On JULY 26th, which is the start of our new schedule, which comes out at 6 week intervals!

I am ecstatic!!!!

This means that I will get to sleep normally half the time and I will get an extra 2 days off and I can do a lot with 2 extra days off!! I am already counting down!!

7. I think the most that I aspire to do in 2015 is to Enjoy My Life! I feel that I have not been doing that for some time now and Life is short. You never know when it will be taken away from you so I need to make changes now that will allow me to enjoy my life!

Okay, I actually have been enjoying my Life this year........

I have taken the last 6 months to purge, get organized, free myself of previous obligations, focus on what I want to do and when I want to do it, enjoy my house and garden like I did in years past, get rid of some of the stress in my life and change my work situation!!!

All in all, I think I really did pretty good these last 6 months in reclaiming my Life!!!

I think that this year is the first year that I really took the time to focus on My One Little Word!

All of this has allowed me to relax and enjoy simple wonderful everyday things!!

And the year is not over!! There is still 6 more months left!!

I have many things that I want to do when I go Part Time but I realize that one of my biggest Faults is over scheduling myself so I need to Think before I do that again!!

And take some time to Breathe!!
 I will continue to Blog!!
This is my new philosophy on Life!!
How true this was for me!!

I hope you enjoyed my Update on the first 6 months of how I decided to change my Life!!

I also hope that maybe I have inspired some of you to make changes in your Life!!

Soon I will be posting about what I hope to be able to do when I go Part Time!!

My Colorful Back Yard Patio, Part 1 2015

It finally stopped raining long enough for me to clean up and straighten out the Patio........
I want to start off by Thanking Jody and Stan over at Rooted in Thyme for featuring my post,  Dabbling on the Front Porch, from last week's Simple and Sweet Fridays Linky Party
Thanks so much , Jody and Stan!

And Thanks to Karren , over at Oh My Heartsie Girl, for featuring my post, Blooms and Major Life Change, from last week's Fridays Features Linky Party!!
Thanks so much , Karren and for your very kind words too!!

Please stop by and link up to these fantastic parties!!

I like lots of bright colors out in my back yard " Cottage Garden" and the same holds true with the Patio.......
In this post, I am going to share one side of the Patio....
The side that I call my side because this is where I usually sit......
Since I live in a Townhouse, the patio is a few concrete slabs ( I kept wanting it bigger!) with an awning over it off the back of the house.....
Let me explain this to you......
Several years ago, I decided to paint "Bricks" on those concrete slabs but  the last 2 vicious Winters that we have had , caused ice to build up  from dripping water caused by melting snow and ice . The ice then formed a "Dam",pushing water toward the house so we had to break up the ice with big ice picks and ice choppers .

Hence, the damage to the "Brick" treatment. Not quite sure what we will do here but I will talk about that in a later post.....
Also several years ago, I had extended the Patio out using bricks and larger square pavers where I now have several flower pots, separating my Cottage Garden from the Patio......
We attached vinyl lattice the the chain link fence using zip ties for privacy.......
In this white pot, I planted marigolds, dusty miller and lobellia......
Some Toadstools sit at the base of the planter......
Next to the planter, on a plant stand, is a pot filled with wave petunias......
And a Dwarf Alberta Spruce is planted in a larger pot......
A Welcome Gnome.......
A geranium that was being choked out in the white pot , along with some petunias are planted in another pot....
I made the Bird House Stand a few years ago out of scrap lumber and we just had our family of Black Capped Chickadees, who nested in the bird house with their 6 offspring, leave!!
These were the Babies in the Bird House.......
And peeking out , deciding if it was safe to leave....
All 6 of them did leave.....
I usually sit in this corner.....
Because of the last 2  harsh Winters we had, I  lost a few plant stands and other things that I had in the Patio over the years......... But they were all things bought at yard sales for only a few bucks.....
Now if you are new to Debbie-Dabble, you are wondering why I have a hanging pot in the corner with no flowers in it??????
For the second time this Season, we had Morning Doves nest in this pot ( twice last year too).
These were the last set of babies right after they hatched..........
Here they are debating about Flying the Coop!!
And on the fence after they Flew the Coop!!
So the pot is all cleaned out and we are waiting to see if a 3rd set of Doves come and nest there......
I will not be planting flowers in that pot again!!
I moved this table from another part of the Patio and placed my Fairy Garden in a Beverage Tub on top of it........
I made the Garden Wreath some time ago but this year, I took off the Seed Packets that I originally had in the wreath because the elements had caused them to fade and shrivel after getting wet.
Sitting here, I can enjoy the Fairy Garden......
I bought all new things for it at Joann's this year......
A small plant stand is in the corner......
Excuse the air conditioner as we do not have central air conditioning......
Between the windows ...........

The Mail Man wind chime is because Joe is a Letter Carrier for the U.S.Postal Service.
The binoculars are for watching the birds in the trees behind our yard and there are flameless candles in the wall lantern......
 Under the window....
2 plant stands......
Begonias in a pot on a plant stand that I spray painted dark blue.....
A flameless candle on a timer inside of the bird cage that I spray painted a few seasons ago.....
Battery operated Butterfly Lights, the little Dancing Flower and the Bird House that I painted along with the mats all came from Dollar Tree!
Above the wrought iron Chair.......
All these plaques on the walls are ones that I re-painted in bright colors several years ago......
I am using this chair as a plant stand for a pot of begonias.....
A Mosaic Glass Frog sits under the chair.......
I have to find a flameless candle for this as it should look really pretty lit up !!
And that brings us to the back door......
I embellished a large Fly Swatter with children's Fairy Wings, Flowers, a Pot filled with some Eggs  and a Bow and hung it on the Door!!
Almost everything came from Dollar Tree!!
So that is my side of the Patio!!
I bumped the Patio out in the center using bricks and pavers about 3 years ago because I wanted room for a small table and an Umbrella for more shade.
I bought the table and chairs at Ross For Less and this Beach Umbrella at Boscovs!
The Umbrella fit perfectly in this small space!!
I like to sit here with a cool drink or a cup of Tea!
Both the table and chair fold up easily.....
On top of the table is one of a set of 3 lanterns from Sam's Club.....
They all have water proof flameless candles that can be set for 4 or 8 hours of lighting....

My other 2 are on the Front Porch......

And underneath the table is a small planter filled with begonias and a stepping stone that says it all!!
"Life Began in A Garden"
And that brings us to the end of the tour of this side of my Patio ......

Soon , I will be sharing the other side of the Patio.....
 Joe's side.......
And my Baker's Rack turned  Potting Station.......
I hope you enjoyed seeing my little bright and colorful Patio!!

Once again, I want to THANK all who left such kind and encouraging comments on my post,  Blooms and a Major Life Change which is about ME deciding to go Part Time due to my numerous Health Issues!!

I will have more on that and some other changes in my life in my 6 month Update on  My One Little Word, LIVE  in my next post!
