A Bit of This and That.....

Last week I showed you 2 busts that I bought at a flea market.

Well, here is where they found a home in my Dining Room......

I like the white against the pink walls......

This is one of the lamp shades that I make to use on candle lights....

I love to use cameos, ribbon roses, lace and beads......

Here is another one in my Den....

Now on to some great buys while out shopping....

This is from the Christmas Tree Shop. It is from their Christmas in July line which is nautical in theme.
I took some of the shells off already and may take the rest off. I love the color of this bottle brush tree as I am planning to use color along with pink and other pastels in my Guest Room this Christmas season.
I think I will paint the picket fence pink.....

For more Christmas Treasures that I found recently, Please click HERE to visit my Christmas Blog...

At A.C. Moore's, I bought these for $1.00 each!!
There are 2 pot holders in each set.
Perfect for my red Kitchen.......

Also at A. C. Moore's were these rolls of lace for $1.00 each!

And tags and little bird's nests on Clearance....

Now on to some Flea Market finds....

I bought about 12 of these ....

Will be giving them a coat of pink and some gold and some ivory paint and dabble them up for my Holiday Craft Fairs that I will be participating in....

A darling little tea pot.....

And you all know that I can not resist a Tree......

I will do something a bit fancier with the base......

And love these Burgundy Chair Seat Covers. There are 4 of them....

And I just love this one......

I do need to clean it but I wanted to get this post done....

Isn't this the cutest thing????

I am going to find a place to display this little baby in my Craft/ Sewing Room. I have seen so many creative spaces after visiting Where Bloggers Create and have seen so many vintage sewing machines nicely displayed in so many Studios and Craft Rooms........

We donate to Habitat for Humanity and they sent me this cute little Bear named Sawyer!!

As for a garden update....
Things were really beginning to dry out with the 90+ degree weather we had been having. Then on Monday the heavens opened up and we had 2-3 inches of rain in one day. Other parts of my area had 6 inches and flooding problems!!

I showed you several critters in my garden...

first a chipmunk,

then a ground hog in my next door neighbor's yard

and now this is the latest addition to my garden critters.....

I know garter snakes are good and eat spiders and insects and mice BUT I am no lover of snakes!!!!

When my parent's built the house that I lived in from 4 years old on til when I married, it was a new development which had been an orchard. We had black snakes and also copper heads which are poisonous...... I don't like snakes!!!!

This weekend is our Church Festival. I hope to take some pics to show as we are going on Friday. I am working the rest of the weekend at the hospital but Joe is helping out working the Big 6 Wheel.

We also do a Theme Basket Raffle where we have about 40 different Theme Baskets made up and donated by parishioners.
Here is a pic that I took showcasing what I put in my Tea Time basket that I made up....

I forgot to take a pic of the basket all done up. I hopefully will remember on Friday evening.....

I now want to draw your attention to something that I think all women should be concerned about...
Brenda over at Cozy Little House did a very powerful post during the week entitled "A Tribute to Maria". It is about physical and emotional spousal abuse and Maria's last words.

This post triggered for me very upsetting memories.....

My sister's best friend was Maryann. Maryann lived directly in back of my sister. My Sister, Barbara , was God Mother to one of Maryann's daughters and Maryann was God Mother to my niece Lynn. My Hubby Joe is Lynn's God Father.

24 years ago this month, Maryann was stabbed to death with a butcher knife in her kitchen while getting ready to go to work , by her husband, while their 2 young daughters slept upstairs. He then left the house and drove to the State police barracks and turned himself in stating that he had just murdered his wife. When the State police arrived, the girls were still sleeping and they were kept upstairs so until the crime scene could be secured before they could be taken out of the house and into the arm's of their maternal grandmother who lived next door. Those girls hung out the windows of their bedrooms screaming and crying that their mother was murdered by their father to family and neighbors below.

Yes, my sister was interviewed by the Police and yes, she told them that he was insanely jealous and was very controlling but unfortunately, it was too late. He later went to prison and died in prison. Every dog has his day......

There was a nurse that worked at the hospital where I work that was shot to death by her boyfriend in the driveway of his parent's house as she picked up their daughter after a visitation. She died in front of her 2 year old daughter.

One of my good friends that I worked with was married to a lunatic. She left him twice and eventually divorced him. We actually had escape routes planned at work because we feared that he would come into the hospital at night when we were working and blow us all away , looking for her.

So maybe you are not a victim but maybe you know someone. If you do , please try to help them before it is too late and they suffer the same fate as Maria. and many , many others.

Your Bust(statues) are copies of very famous French Bust. They are Marie Antonete's two children.Louis is the boys name, I am not sure of the little girl. they both had there heads chopped off along with there parents when the French people revolted because of her spending. Love your music. Richard at My Old Historic House.

Hi Debbie,

Everything is so pretty. You really scored some good stuff. :0) But your story's of physical and emotional abuse immediately caught my attention. I was married for 20 years to a man that couldn't go through the day without finding some kind of fault with me. When I tried to talk to him about his behavior he would turn all of it around back on me. He had no problems...just ask him. At the end he started throwing stuff at me but as many woman in these situations we want out but don't know how for fear of really getting hurt.

You know I speak of my Thomas...well I finally met my soul mate that respects me, considers me, encourages me, etc. God does send people into your life to rescue you when the fire of your spirit has just about died. I'm thankful everyday for the life I have now.

I probably said too much but this type of abuse towards women will always hit close to home for me. You never forget.

Hugs to you,
Stephanie Suzanne ♥

The bust statues look like they were just made for that special place Debbie.

I read the post on Marie. And your friends. It brings a tear to my eyes. I went through emotional and physical abuse for 11 years when married to my first husband. It back then was something that was more or less sweep under the rug and ignored. Thank God that I got out. I do have to say that my ex has totally reformed and we are friends today. I also thank God for George who realizes just what I went through and has helped me through out our years together. I remember when we first started seeing each other. We were both in our early 30's and he was so patient with me in helping to gain my self asteam and becoming a trusting person again.

He stood beside me when I had to call and tell my youngest daughter that her best friend had been killed by her husband. She left a 3 and 4 year old along with a newborn just 5 weeks old. My youngest Grandson was named with the middle name of Taylor which was her friend maiden name. then again George was there when we had to tell my middle daughter that her best friend had just been killed by here husband who also took his life. It was such a heart breaking time for them both.

My prayers go out to all those that are abused by their spouse both men and women. Yes I have seen abused men also and my heart breaks for them.

I Hope that you enjoy your Basklet raffle. Love what you put in yours. Sounds like lots of fun.

Hugs, Karan

Oh that picture of the little sewing machine brought back a flood of memories!! This is just like that one that my sister received from Santa 1 christmas. I got a sewing machine too but it wasn't as fancy and grown up as Kathy's! She had it too close to the wall furnace and the cover melted that same day!

I don't like snakes either. I was bit and almost died 2 years ago from a rattlesnake bite but God decided He still had things for me to learn and do here instead- I actually just released a bull snake that we had gotten from someone. They gave it to us and we put it at the land where I was bit as they are supposed to kill rattlesnakes.

Hi Debbie...LOVE your gorgeous lampshades. Wow! YOu make those? Fab.

It's true that spousal abuse is horrendous. Some people are really crazy. It's sad but true. The WORST is when children are involved.

Thanks for your visits and comments on my blog. Love having you stop by. Susan

Good morning Debbie.
Those busts do look beautiful against the pink. I love the lamps and the entire vignette. Your lampshades are gorgeous. I love all the trims and roses. You found lots of goodies. Ick on the snake. Isn't it amazing where they will show up....
It is so sad that almost everyone has been touched by spousal abuse whether in their family or knowing someone. A lady at work had a husband like that. The sad thing is, there isn't much that can be done until the abused one presses charges, and they are so fearful to do that, understandably. Restraining orders are not worth the paper they are written on. He called work and made threats to her. We were told what to do if we saw him pull in the parking lot. He threatened to kill her and she was divorced from him and went back. So sad.
Have a great weekend!

Oh Debbie, you found so pretty and fun thrifty finds this week!
Spousal abuse has touched our family. My brother's ex-wife was abusive physically, mentally and emotionally towards my brother. I know people generally think of the woman in the abused position but, I witnessed the other way around. Chris took it for years. He thought he had to for the sake of his sons. But, then when she started going after my nephews that was the end of that marriage. Thank God! And after some horrendous court battles, my brother was awarded full custody of the boys. Also another thing I am so thankful for.
Thank you for joining TTF and have a great weekend!

Hi Debbie, You always find such bargains. I would love to fine lace like that! Suzanne's comment about is identical to my life. Emotional abuse, turned around to make it appear if I only was prettier, thinner, smarter, whatever......he would not get mad. It took loosing my hearing totally (gentic, not due to him) at 39 and seeing his reaction that I had to "try harder" to hear so his life was not distrupted, before I could see the truth. Like Suzanne, I am not married to my soul mate who cherishes and respects me. My stomach lurches every time I see a man berate a women in public, because if he is doing that in public, it has to be 10x worse behind closed doors. A certain type of man will build himself up at the wife's expense. My ex was a gifted, brilliant engineer with an insecurity complex a mile wide....he told me there could only be one star in the family and it was him. At the time, I laughed to myself because I was a stay at home mom and loving it. Had no desire for a career. What I did not realize was that "anything" I did seemed to threaten him, such as receiving a "single red rose" at my children's school for volunteering to type the school paper. I don't hate him, I pity him and I pray for him. I pray for women married to these type of men and those with physical abusive marriage/relationship, I pray they seek help for themselves and their children. Been there done that, thankfully my own daughters have loving husbands who support/respect them.

Oh gosh sorry, one can see how upsetting even writing about my first marriage is some 18 1/2 years after the fact. I meant to say, "find" lace like that. I meant to say, "Suzanne's comment about emotional abuse was identical to mine" and my quotes are weird! Yes, I am NOW married to my soul mate. Prime example of having been blessed with a loving man for 17 years this coming Sept, yet when I write about my life before, it obviously stresses me out so much I cannot type correctly over and over.

Hi, I am a little later getting around this week. Savoring time with the kiddos before school. You found some very nice goodies. That sewing machine is a keeper. Love it and still has all it's original gear! What a great find. Thanks for linking it up at HSH!

Wow, this is a nice, long, luscious post! I laugh about your garter snake. When I was little we lived a walk from the market in our tiny town. My mom has sent me over to get a few groceries. On the way back a small garter snake was on the side of the road - so I picked it up and put it in the grocery bag! What a wicked little girl! (Yes, my mom lived after that incident. I barely did!)
